FACEIT Season 8 Is Live

FACEIT Aluminati

Season 8 begins a new structure for FACEIT matchmaking, with each season starting with placement games. Bigger updates will now launch together at the start of each season, for players to test new features, determine their new Elo, and help keep our highest levels competitive.

TL;DR

  • Season 8 begins with 10 placement matches to help inactive players return to their skill level.
  • The placement matches also help manage Elo inflation, preventing level 10 from being less competitive by bringing the best players closer to the wider matchmaking pool.
  • FACEIT Rating is a new performance metric going beyond kills to help measure how your performance changed your team’s chance of winning the match.
  • Match Insights show Premium players each kill, death, and utility position on a radar map to help with quick and easy post-match analysis without downloading demos.
  • Play a season-long mission to progress a new Profile Badge
  • The Monthly Missions have been restructured into a Two-Tier format with already achieved rewards unlocked if you subscribe to Premium.
  • Access Tokens let you try paid features without committing to a full subscription, like standing in for ESEA League, playing for more Elo in Premium matches, and generating highlight clips after a match.
  • Premium Loyalty XP is now being awarded for ESEA League Pass, Premium gifting, and Shop purchases.

A New Seasonal Structure

Season 8 marks the beginning of a defined seasonal rhythm. Major updates now launch at the start of each FACEIT season, alongside a structured placement phase with 10 matches for Season 8. This does not mean a full reset. Instead, the matchmaking pool is reassessed on a predictable cycle to keep the highest levels competitive. Over time, Elo inflates as the best players climb higher, making it easier to gain Elo without facing top players.

Inactive accounts sit above their current skill and lower the quality of games when they return. This makes progress beneath the best easier and higher skill games less competitive. Seasonal recalibration prevents long-term drift and protects the meaning of our highest levels.

Placement Matches

Every player begins Season 8 with 10 placement matches. During these matches, Elo is temporarily hidden. Once completed, your new skill level and Elo is revealed. Your placement is guided by your previous Elo and recent activity. If you finished Season 7 at 1,800 Elo and played frequently, your starting point will reflect that history. If you have been inactive for months, the system will reassess your skill more aggressively.

  • The highest Elo players (3,000+) will be reset more, as in previous seasons, to manage Elo inflation by bringing them closer to the rest of the level 10’s Elo.
  • A Level 10 player who has not played in three months will drop more after several losses than a player who was active close to the start of Season 8.
  • A 2,300 Elo player who consistently plays and wins several placements will remain at a similar point.

Placement games may make matches more volatile at the start of the season, as players will move around more from their placement matches, trying to find their starting position for Season 8. However, placement matches are designed to deliberately tighten the Elo distribution at the highest levels, which pushes weaker players out of level 10 and creates more competitive games long-term by helping inactive players get back to their skill level.

FACEIT Rating

FACEIT Rating is a new performance metric that measures how a player’s actions increase their team’s chance of winning rounds.

Historically, the scoreboard treats kills equally. In practice, they are not equal. An entry frag that breaks open a 5v5 bombsite has significantly more impact than an exit kill in a 1v4 loss in overtime. A 1v2 clutch has more influence on the match outcome than the last two eco frags in a 5v2.

FACEIT Rating measures how your performance changes the probability of winning a match. Entry kills, flash assists, and high-leverage plays in key buy rounds contribute more heavily than bait kills, leading to a loss and low-impact stat padding.

For example:

  • A player who consistently gets entry kills on T-side and converts opening duels will rate highly, even if they are not top fragging.
  • A player who gets a final exit kill in lost rounds will see less FACEIT Rating benefit.
  • A support player whose utility swings mid-round win probability can still rate strongly without high kill totals.

Today, FACEIT Rating does not change your Elo, influence matchmaking, or replace the scoreboard. It provides clearer context around individual performance in matchmaking and helps players understand how they are performing at their level. Long-term, we will investigate how it can be used to improve matchmaking.

Cache On FACEIT

Season 8 also introduces an optional Map into matchmaking, chosen by the community. The top 1,000 Elo players created a shortlist before a community vote decided between Cache, Vertigo, and Train. For Season 8, the winning map is Cache, with X votes, which you can now play in FACEIT matchmaking for Elo.

The Seasonal Map is optional, and all players can select it from their map preferences without needing Premium or affecting their other map bans.

Match Insights for Premium

Match Insights provide Premium players with round-by-round breakdowns directly on the match page, where they can see kill/death/utility locations without downloading a demo.

Players can review:

  • Where each of their kills was during a round
  • Where utility grenades were thrown and landed
  • Damage distribution graphed across the game
  • How each player’s performance changed across rounds

Instead of having to set up a demo to find who teamflashed or find the positions you were getting the most kills from, you can review key data immediately after the match.

For example:

  • You may notice your early-round grenades are not doing any damage
  • You can see you frequently die late round in the same spots.
  • You can check if players’ damage or kills dropped after consistent force buys.

The purpose of Match Insights is to provide fast feedback so you can spot patterns, discuss with your stack, and adjust for the next game.

Seasonal Profile Badge

The Season 8 Badge launches on April 22 with Season 8 and is a new way to show what you actually achieved across the season, not just where you finished. Play through the seasonal mission, complete challenges, and your badge evolves as you go. Your final badge reflects both how much you played and how high you climbed, combining wins and your best rank into a single, visible outcome.

This isn’t locked behind Premium. Everyone can earn it, but you only get one at the end of the season, based on the progress you made. It sits directly on your profile, under your card, alongside your other achievements. Unlike past badges tied to specific Leagues or events, this one is built for every player: clear progress, visible improvement, and something that actually represents your Season 8.

New Monthly Mission Format with Two-Tiers of Rewards

Missions now follow a shared path for both Free and Premium players. Every match contributes toward rewards, including new Token Packs and exclusive cosmetics. Premium players unlock larger rewards for the same effort. If a player upgrades mid-month, previously earned Premium rewards are unlocked and can be claimed retroactively.

This means:

  • All players can earn FACEIT points and Access Tokens for the games they already play.
  • Premium players receive more value for the same time, like exclusive Cosmetics. Upgrading unlocks rewards for past effort.
  • The first new Monthly Mission format will start in May.

Access Tokens Let You Try Paid Features Without A Full Subscription

Tokens now provide additional functionality beyond Super Match, so they can be used to:

  • Stand in for ESEA League officials (or FACEIT League in Overwatch) without needing to buy a full season’s membership.
  • Archive your favorite rounds by generating highlight clips easily with one button from the match page.
  • Access Premium Matches with more competitive requirements and more Elo at stake for the same time.

Tokens can be earned through missions, purchased in the shop, or unlocked through higher Premium Loyalty Tiers.

Premium Loyalty

Premium Loyalty continues to reward long-term subscribers with additional perks at higher tiers. Season 8 will add token packs for higher Premium Loyalty Tiers.

These come alongside new XP sources for Premium Loyalty, including gifting, shop purchases, and ESEA League Pass, now each contributing toward your Premium Loyalty Tier. We have also backdated past purchases for these to reward those who have been purchasing on FACEIT previously.

Season 8 is now live, so you can start your placement matches, compare your FACEIT Rating with your friends, relive Cache, and explore the new features available for this season.
